Mahogany Patinated Odalisque Bronze Sculpture by Pradier

$2,213.00

A mahogany/dark-chocolate-patinated bronze from one of the finest foundries of 19th-century, Siot-Decauville. The sculptor James Pradier (1790-1852), who commenced his career with works in the Neoclassical style, but then transitioned to more Romantic mien, here synthesizes the two styles in his depiction of an odalisque, a favorite Romantic subject, an “Orientalist” trope replete with snake bracelets and tiara, but presented in a quintessentially Neoclassical contrapposto pose.

Measures: 440 x 145 x 155 mm.
