A mantel clock from the French “Restauration” era of 1815-1830 in fire-gilt bronze. The dial is enamelled white and the hours are depicted with Roman numerals. The figure represents the the goddess Hera, wife of Zeus. The elegant piece foregrounds an intertwining of the masculine and feminine in a perfection metaphor for marriage. On the base, which rests on four finely chiseled feet, can be seen two young spouses in profile facing each other. Note also the exquisite fleece draped over the column on the right.
