An exquisite pair of gilt-bronze and black-patina sconces - appliqués - from the French Restauration Era. The pair revels in the acanthus-leaf iconography of classicism to an almost abstract degree, with the gilt acanthus of the backplate supporting the five substantial arms which in turn support gilt cups and bobeches. Note that one of the cups is a later restoration.
